Fark Sends Twice As Much Traffic As Netscape
I thought the first two times were anomalies, but after three Farkings I’m convinced that Fark sends a lot more traffic than Netscape.
The beauty of Fark is that if you are going to get promoted there, you are likely tapping into one the most powerful emotions and viral dominos…humor. A bait with a humorous slant is much more likely to proliferate around forums and the blogosphere than, say, a bait designed around the Resource Hook or Award Hook. With as much deductive reasoning as I could put together, I’d say the link yield from Fark traffic is about 5x Netscape.
So, what kind of traffic are we talking about? Let’s call it Tier Two traffic. If Digg and major news sites are Tier One sending 10,000+ uniques, Fark is a solid Tier Two sending between 3,000-7,500 uniques on our successes over there. By comparison, it’s really hard for us to get more than 2,000 uniques off of Netscape (though I’m sure there are some topics like Politics where it does flow harder).
Fark also lets you…nay, requires you…to really tap into your inner Title Writer. In fact, if you can write a Farkable title, you’re at least halfway to being a great linkbaiter. Even if you fall on your face, it’s the most fun work you’ll do all day.
While we’re on the topic of social sites that send traffic, Stumbleupon has been off the chain lately. Just epic, nearly Digg-like levels of same-day traffic lately. There’s a certain art to seeding the Stumble love, but totally worth the effort.
Also, if you have super-techie stuff like Ubuntu, Linux, Ajax, Ruby, and Security related baits, Tweako is sending traffic for those topics.

The more buzz you can build for these smaller communities, the larger audience they will build and the more traffic you get.
