Link Building Switcheroo With Blog Directories

I’m not proud of myself for this, but…

There are probably a thousand blog directories out there.  They are pretty easy to find if you look for some of their signatures in Google.  Need a thousand links?  Either go add your existing blog to them or, if you don’t feel like being a blogger but you do want some of their easy links…

…take the 5 minutes to set up a Wordpress blog at www.yourdomain.com/blog/, go add that URL to those thousand blog directories, and after they’ve all added you, 301 /blog/ back to your root.  You were a blogger for a day and got a bunch of links for being the blogger that you were.  It’s a pretty easy way to get a new site going and chances are the folks you are competiting with won’t be able to generate that kind of link profile if you are in a relatively uncompetitive market.

    Are you serious? :)

The most valuable and trusted blog directories require a couple of months, if not half a year, of posts. Some just a couple of weeks.

Why would you want to rank for your blog name, anyway?

I’d spend the time on writing quality content and getting links from that, really.

P.S. Is it just me or your font doesn’t display well at Opera 9.0, 1024*800?

Do you know of a service that will submit your blog to 1000 blog directories or is it something that I would have to do? Seems like a tedious process and one that I would like to outsource.

    Thanks for the valuable information!

    Yuri -

If you had a blog with a keyword-rich name, then those backlinks are a little more valuable. And, yes, some of the more trusted directories have higher quality thresholds, but with hundreds of other directories passing juice, why not take advantage of them while you are growing your blog? Let’s say this activity leans a little closer to generating traffic to a splog than a corporate blog…

    Greg -

Do a search on the Digital Point forums. Lots of folks on there will submit to directories for a reasonable fee.

Brian, that’s a tad closer to the truth :)

However, I should point out that a couple of links you can get from trusted websites by offering quality articles for publications may be worth more than the 1000 of links with your domain/company name.

When it comes to splogs, any links will work, you are right here :)

    Yuri:

I probably would save this for a rainy day on a long-term site with less than 3 years of reputation. It doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive to trusted sites on an oldier, crustier domain, but on a new domain, 1000 less complimentary and 301′d links is going to draw some review.

If you are working with something that has aged already and in a competitive arena (eg, buy-my-viagra-popsicle.com), this might put you over the hump for that week.

It’s just another tool in your satchel which may or may not provide competitive value at any given time. Just like the rest of competitive SEO.

    Thanks for the replies.
