…the Chairman of the third largest Internet company calls you in a less than stellar mood about something you said on your blog and you pray that you are getting sued.
I mean, I literally began doing the quick math in my head about how much every dollar I was about to fork over to Wilson Sonsini would yield in links…and then comparing that to other link buys at my disposal. Now, I don’t know what Aaron Wall spent on legal defense for his case, but I’m thinking if my conversation had gone substantially different than it ended up going, it would have cost me significantly more.
I started wondering if my hosting could deal with the traffic spikes it was about to get. I prayed that people would use the optimal anchor text when citing my David vs. Goliath showdown. I began to wonder if when O.J. was slitting Nicole’s throat (allegedly), he wished the Internet had been popularized five years earlier so he could generate link equity. Or if Nick Saban left the Dolphins so he could get an .edu link. I immediately saw the entire world in a different light.
But then the call went really well. So, here I am wondering what I’ll do next for links…and if Andy Hagans will swipe all those links, too. That bastard!

You can’t trust TropicalSEO with your meme or gf.
If you want to be really sneaky, under an alias release a few press releases stating so an so big corporation is suing the website you want the traffic to go to for like $100 Million or a Billion dollars.
Drop the link to the press on a few social sites and hope it sticks. Worst thing that happens, nothing happens and your out a few hundred dollars.
Best thing that happens, you get to sit by for a couple days all hush hush while the traffic roles in and then deny you know anything about it.
BP: Jeremy, I like where your heart is at! :) I’ve seen a couple other entrepreneurial SEO’s rank for some very competitive terms via hoax marketing, the underbelly of linkbaiting. I’m going to make a note to talk about the hoax stuff. Thanks.
Seriously, any company that calls itself a “professional corporation” is begging for a googlebombing. If it went any further, at least we could present them with a much more serious reputation management problem…
[…] Brian is a link slut - and proud of it.- at least he hasn’t yet hacked his site intentionally for links (but probably still believes I did) […]
A “professional corporation” (PC) is an entity specifically created for licensed professionals, such as attorneys. It’s not a marketing position.
And I think Brian is saying that he would *hire* WS to defend him… a pricey high-powered choice!
