I love Sitemeter. Not because I use it. But because a lot of my competitors do.
Sitemeter is a fast growing free web analytics tool that many bloggers and community developers have turned to. They also tend to leave all that information visible to the web, leaving you with tons of traffic data to go scrape.
For example, let’s look at Andy’s referrer mix: http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=s26tropicalseo&r=11
If Andy and I were competing with each other for something more profitable than a gentlemen’s wager, I’d cherry pick that list for referrers with good juice and passed traffic.
Next, we can see what his most popular pages are: http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=s26tropicalseo&r=37
If I wanted to go get a link off of TropicalSEO, this gives me great insight into which internal pages probably have the best mix of audience/juice.
In my more aggressive past, I had a developer build me a tool to go scrape a lot of this open analytics data. Using some advanced search operators, you can discover thousands of sites’ traffic data to go exploit for fun and profit.

I love me a sitemeter. Hokey, outdated, and generally a poor way to do business. But better the devil you know…
hello,
I was using Sitemeter in the past. However I have shifted to GoStats.com now.
I read a few articles on the web enlisting the abuse of browsers cookies done by Sitemeter. There is a high risk of spying.
Do you know about this, I have read this at quite a lot places.
Interesting!
Does it only work if the account in question has not been made secure (by whatever setting)?
Just tried it on a couple of accounts but had no joy.

Call me stupid but how does one find a site that is using Sitemeter?
I have been to their site and I just don’t know how to complete a search - or start one for that matter - to look for the blog - or website of choice that is using SM. Maybe I missed something.
I did find a few blogs that use Sitmeter through just using a backlink check, but is there a way to find it from the Sitemeter homepage?
Like I said, I might feel really dumb if it was easy - and did not find it. But, it is not like being clueless has never been a part of MO!
Thanks for any and all information..
